The Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade meets with Nissan Egypt officials to discuss the company’s expansion plans and the increase of production and exports.

“We aim to improve the investment climate and facilitate procedures to increase production rates and enhance export competitiveness.”
“We are committed to making Egypt a distinguished production and export platform, and Nissan’s investments reflect our opportunity to strengthen local industry.”

As part of the efforts of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade to enhance the competitiveness of the Egyptian market and attract high-quality investments, Dr. Mohamed Farid, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, met with officials of Nissan Egypt to review the company’s current and future projects and its expansion plans in the automotive industry. This step comes within the framework of supporting export-oriented production expansion and deepening local content, thereby contributing to increasing the value added of the national industry and enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian products in regional and global markets.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Jihan Saleh, Advisor to the Prime Minister for Economic Affairs; Mr. Mohamed Abdel Samad, Managing Director of Nissan Africa; and Mr. Samy El-Mahallawy, Government Relations Director at the company.

During the meeting, the Minister reviewed the Ministry’s efforts aimed at improving the investment climate and creating a more attractive and competitive business environment by simplifying procedures, accelerating the issuance of licenses and approvals, providing customs facilitation, and supporting the provision of direct shipping lines. These efforts contribute to facilitating access of Egyptian automotive exports to foreign markets and reducing transportation costs.

Dr. Mohamed Farid affirmed that the company’s anticipated expansions represent an important step toward consolidating Egypt’s position as a regional hub for manufacturing and exporting in the automotive industry. He noted the potential to direct locally manufactured vehicles to global markets, benefiting from advanced Japanese expertise in this sector, as well as from the Egyptian market’s investment and competitive advantages, including its strategic geographic location and export-supportive trade agreements.

The Minister added:
“We are committed to making Egypt a distinguished production and export platform, and Nissan’s investments reflect our opportunity to strengthen local industry, increase production, and enter global markets with strength.”

He stressed the importance of deepening local manufacturing and increasing the share of locally produced components, which enhances reliance on national production, supports industrial sustainability, and contributes to improving product quality and reducing final costs, positively reflecting on the competitiveness of Egyptian-made vehicles domestically and internationally.

This meeting comes within the framework of the Ministry’s vision to enhance the competitiveness of the investment climate, attract high-value-added investments, and support export-oriented production expansion, thereby contributing to increased exports, job creation, stronger integration of the Egyptian economy into regional and global value chains, and driving sustainable economic growth in the coming period.

For his part, Eng. Mohamed Abdel Samad, Managing Director of Nissan Africa, stated:
“We reaffirm Nissan’s continued commitment to the Egyptian market for more than 20 years, during which Nissan Egypt has become a strategic hub for manufacturing and exporting to the African continent, having exported more than 25,000 vehicles to various African markets. Egypt’s strategic geographic location supports our expansion plans across the continent, and we look forward to benefiting from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to expand exports, in line with the Egyptian government’s vision to boost industrial exports and enhance the competitiveness of local products, and to support Egypt as a regional manufacturing and export hub for African and international markets. This comes in parallel with Nissan Egypt’s announcement of assembling a third model at its wholly owned factory in Egypt, reflecting our confidence in the Egyptian market and its role as a regional industrial hub.”
